Membership Path

The Institute shall consist of four main categories of members
  1. General Members: Should have at least one of the following qualifications;
  1. A postgraduate Degree in Statistics/Applied Statistics/Bio-Statistics 
  2. A Postgraduate Degree in Data Science/ Data Analytics/ Business Analytics or equivalent specialty recognized 
    by the council of IASSL. However, eligibility based on such a degree is subject to the condition that the degree's 
    transcript reflects a strong foundation in Statistics.
  3. A postgraduate Diploma in Statistics/Applied Statistics/Bio-Statistics 
  4. A bachelor's degree with a minimum of 30 credit courses in the study area of Statistics. 
  5. A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 15 credit courses in the study area of Statistics, 
            and

      not less than a one-semester (full time) or a minimum of 15 credit research project, in the study area of Statistics
  1. The Higher Diploma offered by the IASSL
  2. A bachelor's degree, or the diploma offered by the IASSL,
            and 

      a minimum of 5 years of experience as a Statistician or equivalent position recognized by the council of IASSL.
General members shall use the title MIASSL.
  1. Associate Members (Annual Only): Should have at least one of the following qualifications;
  1. A bachelor's degree with a minimum of 15 credit courses in the study area of Statistics.
  2. The Diploma in Applied Statistics offered by IASSL
Associate members shall use the title AIASSL
  1. Fellows:
Fellowships will be awarded at the Annual General Meeting on the recommendation of the Executive Council.
      1. A General member(lifetime) of the IASSL (Applied Statistics Association of Sri Lanka as well) for a continuous
        period of ten years,
                  and

                  a distinguished person who has done immense service to the field of Statistics in general or to the Institute* in special.

               *The term institute for this clause includes Applied Statistics Association of Sri Lanka as well.
Fellows shall use the title FIASSL
  1. Honorary Fellows:
Honorary Fellowships will be awarded at the Annual General Meeting or at an International Statistics Conference 
conducted by the IASSL on the recommendation of the Executive Council.
  1. Any distinguished person who has done immense service to the Statistics discipline in general or to the IASSL 
    in special are eligible to be an Honorary Fellow.
In addition to the above members, following two categories shall be enrolled as of members:
    1. Corporate membership (Annual Only):
         Any public sector or private sector organization that is engaged in statistical work shall be eligible 
to be enrolled as corporate member.                                                                
Corporate members can send one authorized representative to the Annual General Meeting.
    1. Student membership (Annual Only):
       Any undergraduate of a degree programme in Statistics or Applied Statistics or any other degree programme 
in which Statistics is a subject of the degree programme of a recognized university, 
or students following the Diploma course conducted by the Institute shall be eligible to be a student member. 
NOTE:
   a.    Application for membership should be made in a prescribed form approved by the    Executive Council.   It shall be proposed and seconded by life members.
  b.   The Council shall have the power to refuse any application for membership, without revealing the reasons for such action.
